BioPoem The person who knows you best…is you. Tell others about yourself by writing a bio-poem. Use one sheet of legal-size (REALLY BIG) computer paper. Needs to bigger than a regular-size of notebook paper to receive full credit. Don’t write it on notebook paper. Notebook paper will not receive full credit.
2
Follow the directions on your instruction sheet to create your final copy. The following should be done to help you brainstorm ideas and phrasings before writing your final copy.
3
Line 1: Your first name Write your name in the center of the line. It can be a nickname if you have one Mandy, Mrs., Supreme OverLord
4
Line 2: List traits that describe you List three to four adjectives that characterize you best. Sarcastic, opinionated, obstinate, intelligent, blunt, squishy, caring, fluffy, scary ( personally, I don’t see this one)
5
Line 3: Identify important relationships Identify relationships that give an instant message about who you are. Choose ones that truly matter to you. This line could refer to family members, friends, pets, and so on. Wife of Charlie; owner of two terrifying dogs, and one of the oldest living finches in captivity; friend; auntie; sister; daughter and a daughter- in-law
6
Line 4: Who loves… List a minimum of three things you love or love to do. Choices could include hobbies, sports, activities, goals, books, movies, TV programs, or music/musicians. They could also include key values or beliefs. Who loves reading, playing, hiking, traveling, eating, dancing like a monkey, cartoons, comic books, movies, music, fairies, animals (except fire ants, mosquitos and politicians), saying “Life, she is cruel” and “She ded” and “Five ever,” irony, etc….I love a lot of stuff, OKAY!
7
Line 5: Who feels… Focus on important emotions in your life. Who feels happy, bouncy, exuberant, sleepy, lazy, amused, snarky, lurved…I am an emotional mess. They are all over the place! Don’t try to control them! Nobody puts baby in a corner!...wait…
8
Line 6: Who fears… Maybe your fears are realistic; maybe they are unfounded. (Afraid of alien abduction, anyone? How about raisins?) Explore you fears on this line. Who fears accidently running over an animal, finding dead things in my water fountains and pool, bigots with strong convictions, actually having to run for my life (b/c this girl doesn’t run), and Intergalactic Doom
9
Line 7: Who needs… Remember to be as specific as possible. Who needs someone to grade essays for me, 48 more hours in the day, to spend more time with my family and friends between August and May, and the ability to function at a higher level than mental zombie before 11 A.M. and two pots of coffee
10
Line 8: Who gives… List three things you give to others. Don’t be afraid to tout your strengths. Who Gives sympathy and a shoulder to cry on but isn’t afraid to dole out a motivational, metaphorical kick when needed, LOOKS, random bubbles and Parties in a Jar
11
Line 9: Who would like… Write about personal goals, wishes, or dreams, either short- or long-term. Or write about things you would like to see happen to benefit your family, school, community, nation, or the world. Who would like to spend much more time playing, win the PowerBall lottery, travel the world with my hubbie, inspire others, save the planet, and hug every animal I find adorable (a veritably infinite list) without threat of serious personal injury or immanent death (hey, platypuses can mess you up)
12
Line 10: From… Give the name or your neighborhood, town, city, state…whatever defines from where you are. From, far far from (but not at far as I’d like to get) Plainview, TX
13
Line 11: Last name Write your last name in the center of the line. Martin

So…it’ll look something like this when you finish writing… Mandy, Mrs. (Supreme) Sarcastic, opinionated, obstinate, intelligent, blunt, squishy, caring, fluffy, scary ( personally, I don’t see this one) Wife of Charlie; owner of two terrifying dogs, and one of the oldest living finches in captivity; friend; auntie; sister; daughter and a daughter-in-law Who loves reading, playing, hiking, traveling, eating, dancing like a monkey, cartoons, comic books, movies, music, fairies, animals (except fire ants, mosquitos and politicians), saying “Life, she is cruel” and “She ded” and “Five ever,” irony, etc….I love a lot of stuff, OKAY! Who feels happy, bouncy, exuberant, sleepy, lazy, amused, snarky, lurved…I am an emotional mess. They are all over the place! Don’t try to control them! Nobody puts baby in a corner!...wait… Who fears accidently running over an animal, finding dead things in my water fountains and pool, bigots with strong convictions, actually having to run for my life (b/c this girl doesn’t run), and Intergalactic Doom Who needs someone to grade essays for me, 48 more hours in the day, to spend more time with my family and friends between August and May, and the ability to function at a higher level than mental zombie before 11 A.M. and two pots of coffee Who Gives sympathy and a shoulder to cry on but isn’t afraid to dole out a motivational, metaphorical kick when needed, LOOKS, random bubbles and Parties in a Jar Who would like to spend much more time playing, win the PowerBall lottery, travel the world with my hubbie, inspire others, save the planet, and hug every animal I find adorable (a veritably infinite list) without threat of serious personal injury or immanent death (hey, platypuses can mess you up) From, far, far from (but not at far as I’d like to get) Plainview, TX Martin (Overlord)

After writing out the poem itself, go back and decorate or color the ENTIRE PAGE in some way that reflects who you are. Finish up your poem by illustrating it. Include pictures or illustrations for at least three of the lines of your poem.
