2 PDHPE stands for Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) programs should focus on encouraging students to make informed decisions related to health and physical activity and develop positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. (Board of Studies, 2007)

3 PDHPE in Primary school was a fun subject. It was a very structured subject. Cudal Public had mandatory swimming and athletics carnivals. Learned conventional games such as soccer, basket ball, cricket and touch football. Teachers were very inventive in creating their own games for students to play in class. Fitness on a Tuesday morning was incorporated into PDHPE classes. Teachers were very particular about the rules and urging students to follow them. Theory lesson would occur every week to educate student on a healthy lifestyle.

6 LOOKS PDHPE Teachers need to: Be fit- to be a role model Be ready to teach Be wearing the appropriate attire Enjoy the subject Be willing to participate. Communication and Knowledge PDHPE Teachers need to: Be calm and level headed. Set out rules and stand by them Reward good behaviour Allow students some choices on the direction of their lesson. Have a depth of knowledge from experiences and the syllabus. Have creative strategies to implement knowledge into effective lessons.

7 I am gaining confidence in teaching PDHPE. Much interest of learning physical education has been around the are of motor skill acquisition. (Tinning, 2001) I believe I will be a generalist PDHPE teacher, not neglecting nor specialising in the subject. According to Tinning, 1993. I feel I will keep close to the syllabus very closely for my first years out in schools before branching out and utilising experiences as a fund of knowledge. I feel confident teaching children about making healthy choices as I have seen the negative effects of unhealthy life decisions. PDHPE offers is often taught in a humanist perspective. Humanists focus on students' social development in terms of the development of a sense of self, cooperation, independence, and responsibility in order to promote human interests, ideals, fulfilment, joy and self-actualisation. (Kirk 1996)
