7  Grades K, 1 and 2 attend Dunbar Primary School 731 Dunbar Road  Approximately 500 students  Kindergarten is an all day program  Standards based instruction  Music, Art, Physical Education, Library  Screenings to be held during August 17-20, 2015  Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) administered from August 17 – November 1; Grade K, 1 and 2 – Diagnostic and DRA  CIRCLE Reading Program

8 What to Expect at the Screening; “Practice” Kindergarten Day opportunity for teachers to observe students in a school setting listen to a story discovery play gross motor and fine motor skills observed KRA – Kindergarten Readiness Assessment new from ODE as of 2014 to be administered between August 17 – November 1 results will be shared with parents

9 replaces the KRA-L includes ways for teachers to measure a child’s school readiness Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (birth to kindergarten entry) are the basis for the new assessment Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards has six components: social skills (including social and emotional development, and approaches toward learning), mathematics, science, social studies, language and literacy, and motor development administered between first day of school and Nov. 1 all kindergarten children will take the assessment the results of the assessment provide a starting point for each child and do not prohibit any child from entering kindergarten.

11  Identify and name at least 10 DIFFERENT COLORS  Identify and name common SHAPES  Recognize UPPERCASE and lowercase LETTERS  RETELL stories or events in order (first…then…and then…)  Use and follow LOCATION words (above, below, next to)  Talk about QUANTITIES (many, some, full, less/more than)  Talk about QUALITIES (hard/soft, rough, loud, dry, sweet)  GROUP objects together based on colors, shapes or sizes  Produce RHYMING WORDS for common pictures (hat & bat)  Recognize when words begin with the SAME SOUND  Hold BOOKS the proper way  Count to TWENTY by ones (one…two…three…four…)  READ number 0-10 (whenever they are seen)  COUNT up to 10 objects in a pile (like counting toys or candy)  COMPARE quantities of objects (more than, less than)  THINK ABOUT and SOLVE problems (how can we…?)
