2  Your magazine must have an original cover and title. Be creative!! Use colors and Pictures!  This cover should stick out to people who would want to read your magazine!

3  Each item in your magazine should be listed with the page number it can be found on…

4  This page is designed for me to know who created which article.  Ex. Joe Mama 1 your choice article 1 journal 2 article summaries 1 Dear Abby letter 2 Health Food Recipes Iris Liner Public Service Messages 1 interview 2 article summaries 1 journal Cover 2 gimmick ads

5  2 of the 6 need to be gimmick ads (Fad diets, miracle medicine, things that sound to good to be true because they are)

6  3 of the 6 need to be public service messages. These have the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue.  1 of the 6 can be your choice

7  You must find credible health articles. Read through them, summarize each into your own words (100 words at least), and cite them! No plagiarizing!

8  survey among student population.  For example, you could survey 30 classmates on how often they text and drive. Then display the results…  Give a short summary of your findings then, display your results as a pie chart, bar graph, or line graph.

9  The interview should be conducted with a professional about a health topic. For example, one could interview the school nurse, an administrator, an officer, etc.  Before the interview prepare a series of questions about a health topic. Be serious about your interview. You are representing NHS.  Summarize the interview in your magazine!  See next slide for an example…

11  Fitness article!!!  You must create this yourself.  Can include work- out plan, tips, etc…

12  These are basically a personal reflections on a controversial topic.  Examples of topics… › Euthanasia › Drinking age › Smoking laws › There are many, many more!!!!!

13  WHAT IS A LETTER TO THE EDITOR?  You feel strongly about an issue, and you want to let people know what you think. You believe you can even influence people to take some action if you speak your mind. But, you want to reach an audience larger than just your friends or your group membership. Letters to the editor can be an effective way to get the word out.  A letter to the editor is a written way of talking to a newspaper, magazine, or other regularly printed publication. Letters to the editor are generally found in the first section of the newspaper, or towards the beginning of a magazine, or in the editorial page. They can take a position for or against an issue, or simply inform, or both. They can convince readers by using emotions, or facts, or emotions and facts combined.  See next slide for example

15  Dear Abby articles consist of a question or problem written to the magazines “abby”.  Abby would reply with her opinion on how to solve or handle the issue.

16  Research a health topic.  Write a review as if you were a doctor or medical professional about the topic.  Your summary should be medically accurate!!!

17  You may draw comics yourself or use technology to create a comic strip.  Comics must be original, but you may use resources to get ideas!

18  Recipes must be healthy  Include the ingredients and instructions on how to prepare!  Include pictures~!!!

19  Include pictures and creativity through out your project
