First Day Business Letter Supplies Required Each Day: Paper, Pencils, Pens Literature Book (only for the first couple of months) Composition Book (given by me) Spiral notebook (bought by you ) Agenda Book Calendar (provided by me) Homework Chromebook (6 th grade only)

Grades The Grading scale is weighted as follows: 10% homework 40% classwork 50% tests/quizzes/projects

Homework Yes, you will have homework… Most likely each night. Homework is on the side board, you will fill out your agenda book each week. Homework will also be on your classroom calendar and on my teacher website http://www.pvsd.k12.ca.us/Domain/316 * Homework may be any or all of the following: Practice Pages (grammar, vocab, literary concepts) Bringing supplies Working on/Finishing Projects Studying for tests Vocabulary Maps Drafting essays

Classwork Classwork will include the following: Reading (textbook stories, novels, magazine articles) Writers Workshop Grammar DOL (Caught Ya) Group Work Skills Practice Group and Individual Projects

Tests Yes, you have to take tests. The great part is, your projects ALSO count as test grades..

What if I forget what I have to do, or if I was absent? - Check the calendar that was given to you for the month - Check the absent file up front - Check the website!

Reading Counts! Homework Grade Must have 50 points per quarter! Powerpoint…

Activity Think about expectations you have of me this school year. What do you need from me? What should I be doing to be sure you are successful? -Please write one idea down on a post-it. Then walk up to the board and place it under “Expectations of Ms.Mauck” Next, think about what my expectations should be of you. What is your job as a student? How can you ensure your own success? Write one idea down on the 2 nd post-it and place it under “Expectations of you”.

Three strikes and you’re out!! Log it! If you do NOT follow my rules and expectations, you must sign the behavior log. After 3 times… DETENTION! Possible infractions: Chewing gum, eating or drinking in class Talking out of turn Not bringing required materials Disrespect Leaning in your chair Not following school rules Running or Horseplay Profanity ETC, ETC, ETC…

CHAMPS Pay attention to the signs on the board! They will tell you which CHAMPS procedures to follow!

Rules 1. Be Prepared for class! 2. Be respectful to me, others, property, and yourself! 3. Follow school rules! 4. No gum chewing, eating, drinking 5. Participate and have fun!

We will be using Google Classroom, Draw, Slides, Docs, etc. a lot this year. Sometimes assignments will be submitted using Google Classroom. 1. Go to Google Classroom 2. Click on the + sign that says join class. 3. Enter the class code. 4. I will give you more explicit instructions next week

Homework Get first day letter signed! 6 th grade- Work on “All About Me” Newspaper 7 th grade- Finish rough draft of “I Am” poem

SSR Please pick a seat… and pick wisely. Please take out a pen or pencil First day packet…1 ST THREE CLASSES TO BRING THESE PAPERS BACK GETS A DOUBLE LUNCH!!!! BRING THESE BACK TOMORROW!!! Hand out agendas.

SSR There are seven forms to bring back…you may give me your yearbook order form. DO NOT bring picture order forms to me~ those go to the photographers on picture day. PE money for clothes and locks go to PE teachers. Lunch money needs to be turned in BEFORE school… envelopes are at the student window.

Wednesday, August 26: Day 1 Distribute First Day Packets! Instruct all students to have forms signed by parents, and to return signed forms to SSR teachers before Friday, September 4. Review expectations for SSR (Students to have a personal book each day, students will read for the duration of the period, choose a book of interest, this is not a time to work on homework assignments, etc.) Day 2: teacher choice- Bring a book!! Three strikes (no book three times) = lunch detention!

Friday, August 28: Day 3 Distribute Student Agenda Books! (Students are to keep these on them at all times. These will also be used “Hallway Passports” to and from the restroom/errands.) Please have students read aloud from the agenda, pages 1-5. (Note the changes to the dress code for your own enforcement purposes). Read from page 102 “How do I Resolve Conflicts?” and page 104 “How can I manage my Anger?”

Monday, August 31: Day 4 Please have students read aloud from the agenda, pages 5-10. (Note the changes to the dress code for your own enforcement purposes). Open to page 12 and demonstrate how to use the calendar (your own best method for organizing assignments is fine!) Highlight the Hallway Passport section to the interior of each page, which students will use when given permission. Review Study and Writing Strategies on page 106 and Read Aloud
