2 UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO LAND GRANT HERITAGE The Land-Grant colleges enroll about three million students and award about 500,000 degrees each year, including: The Morrill Act of 1862 The Hatch Act of 1887 The Smith-Lever Act of 1914 Since 1862 Land-grants have awarded more than twenty million degrees. 34% of all bachelor’s and master’s degrees 60% of all doctoral degrees 70% of the nation’s engineering degrees.

10 Organizational Structures 25 Years ago, all Cooperative Extension Services were within Colleges of Agriculture; directed by an Associate Dean of Agriculture. Today, about 25% of all Extension Services reach beyond the College of Agriculture; directed by a Dean of Extension or Vice Provost/President for Outreach. Of those still administered within agriculture, most have professional appointments in other colleges.
