2. Completing the course doesn’t guarantee employment. Most employers will re-evaluate your swimming strengths before deciding to hire you. You’ll need to practice the skills learned frequently even after the course has completed.

14. Why should you wear a hip pack whether or not you are on surveillance? To be prepared for an emergency at all times.

15. Safety and Emergencies You’re conducting your opening duties and you find a loose bolt on a pool ladder. What should you do? Document the bolt and report it. Identify the specific ladder and bolt. Fix the problem before the facility opens. If it can’t be fixed, block off that area so no one can use it.

16. Safety and Emergencies You’re on duty conducting patron surveillance and someone reports to you shampoo was spilled in the locker room and the floor is very slippery. What should you do? Thank the patron. Clarify the specific location. Signal for assistance of a team member not on surveillance so they can get it taken care of.

17. Weather Conditions Management monitors weather and keeps LG posted. LGs alert management if they see indications of severe weather. Clear patrons from the water and deck.

18. Lightning and Thunder Clear the water at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning. Get off elevated stations. Move everyone to a safe are free of water, plumbing or electrical circuits. Move inside if possible. Stay out of showers and locker rooms during thunderstorms. Keep away from windows and metal objects. Continuously assess the weather situation. Wait 30 minutes after the last lightning sighting or sound of thunder.

19. Outside in a thunderstorm Keep away from tall trees or other structures. Keep away from water or metal objects. Keep as low to the ground as possible but don’t lay on the ground: Squat or crouch with knees up, feet together and hands off the ground.
