CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 2 Requirements Phase (Jan – Mar ’07 - see last CMS Week) CMS Centre” RTAG CMS NOTE - 2007 / 010 Functions and requirements –Offline DQM, calibration, rapid analysis… –Computing operations –Communication with P5 Control Room, LHC@FNAL, other remote centres Since last CMS Week –detailed technical studies –design work –project plans, costs… CMS Centre Vision Similar concepts 24 consoles Meeting rooms Office space LHC @ FNAL Already operational

CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 3 Technical Design Phase (Apr-May ’07 - baseline planning) Radiation –AB / SC: measured PS stray radiation, simulations –PS reconfigured, backup plan (concrete) Safety Commission Inspections –Measurements, evaluation of regulatory compliance –Fire safety, lighting levels, noise, temperature, air- conditioning, ventilation, –Ergonomic assessments - layout, workstations, furniture.. Acoustics –Measurements & simulations by external consultants

CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 4 Technical Design Phase (Apr-May ’07 - baseline planning) Taking account of these studies + experience of others… –CERN Control Centre (CCC) –LHC@FNAL – also for CMS so aim to be consistent –Erich Keller AG – control room construction company …designed the “CMS Centre” and associated needs for technical services –Electrics, air-conditioning, networks, telephones… –Refurbishment / civil eng. - floors, ceilings, doors … –Explored alternatives to minimize costs HVAC options, cheaper materials, simpler consoles… Thanks to CERN / TS and AB, IT, PH, SC and FNAL

CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 9 New Office Space in the PS Area

CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 10 Video- and Phone-Conferencing CERN Meeting Rooms –Completed a technical assessment of CMS rooms 40: S2-A01, S2-B01, R-A-10, R-B10, 2-A01, 5-A01 PS Area: 8-1-016, 354-1-015, 354-1-016; P5 / SCX5, 28-S-029 –Full phone/video system in all rooms: ~ 500 kCHF –Decide priorities B40 auditorium, new room(s) in PS area … ? Some smaller rooms fitted for phone-conf only EVO now in production: http://evo.caltech.eduhttp://evo.caltech.edu –Groups please try it (VRVS support to early 2008)

CMS CB, 22 June 2007 Lucas Taylor 11 Video- and Phone-Conferencing Support At CERN: IT-UDS has made new proposal for support –In spirit of LCG recommendations of RTAG12 –Installation / management of equipment (we purchase) –Integration and on-call support of rooms / systems VRVS / EVO and H.323 (ECS / HERMES) –Phone-conferencing service – is still evolving –Integration with InDiCo: real / virtual room booking, click to launch collaborative tools, event archiving… General EVO support –Assess any remaining EVO development effort required to satisfy CMS needs and level of operational support –Propose a small technical advisory group Together with ATLAS, CERN, external experts … Priorities, compromises, alternatives?…and their costs –Aim for clear LHC-wide approach and funding model
