3 fANCY MUSIc Similar to architecture of this time period, Baroque music is FANCY and performed with much ornamentation.

4 ODD MUSIC? The word “baroque” means ODD AND PECULIAR.

5 HELLO HARPSICHORD! The most common instrument of the Baroque period is the HARPSICHORD, which is similar to the later-developed piano.

7 MAIN TYPES OF BAROQUE MUSIC A type of Baroque work that is based on a religious, Biblical text in which all the dialogue and plot line is sung is an ORATORIO. A type of Baroque work that is based on a religious, Biblical text in which all the dialogue and plot line is sung is an OPERA.

9 MR. BACH One of the most famous composers of Baroque music and music in general is Johann Sebastian BACH.

10 Mr. handel The most famous oratorio composer in the Baroque period is George Frideric HANDEL.

11 MR. VIVALDI A Baroque composer famous for works using string instruments is Antonio VIVALDI.

12 CLASSICAL MUSIC 1750 - 1820

13 Elegant music Music in the Classical period became much more SIMPLE and elegant.

14 BYE HARPSICHORD! The PIANO replaced the harpsichord as the predominant instrument in the Classical period.

15 Mega rise of instruments Orchestras and lots of instruments became popular in this period, which formed the type of music called SYMPHONIES.

16 A SHIFT IN FOCUS For the first time in history, SECULAR music is more popular than sacred music.

18 A composer changed it all In the late Classical period, BEETHOVEN changed the way music was composed and started composing more expressive music that led to the Romantic style of music.

20 “PAPA HAYDN” A Classical composer, nicknamed “Papa,” who is primarily known for vocal works is Franz Josef HAYDN.

21 Mr. MOZART The master of Classical opera and concerti and one of the most well- known composers is Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART.

22 Mr. BEETHOVEN The composer who changed the way Classical music was composed and arguably the most famous composer of all-time is Ludwig van BEETHOVEN.
