2 When do we use the Present Progressive? 1. To talk about an action that is happening at the moment of speaking - something we're doing right now! e.g. I'm working on the computer. She is watching an interesting movie at the moment. 2. To talk about an arrangement or plan in the near future (usually with a future time expression). e.g. They are going on a trip abroad next week. 3. To complain about irritating actions that are repeated regularly. e.g. Ben is always fighting with his friends.

3 Watch a video lesson on the stative verbs Stative verbs are verbs that describe a state and consequently the stative verb is not usually used in the progressive aspect, which is used for incomplete actions in progress. emotion: like, love, want, wish mind: agree, believe, mean, know appearance: look, like, resemble, seem possession: belong, consist, contain, have, need, own perception: see, hear, taste I love lying in bed late on Sunday mornings. 6 Add –ing to the base form of most verbs start – starting finish - finishing wash - washing When the base form ends in an –e, delete an –e, and add –ing live – living ride – riding care - caring When the base verb ends in –ee, just add –ing agree – agreeing see - seeing When the base verb ends in –ie, delete the –ie, add –y, and then add -ing tie – tying die - dying

7 If the verb has one syllable and end in CVC, double the final consonant and add –ing plan – planning stop – stopping rob - robbing Do not double final –w, -x, -y blow – blowing fix – fixing play - playing If the verb has two syllables, and the final syllable is stressed, double the final consonant. admit – admitting occur – occurring prefer - preferring If the verb has two syllables, and the final syllable is NOT stressed, do not double the final consonant. happen – happening listen – listening open - opening
