1 Present Continuous

2 Form 1 Statement/Negative: subject + am/is/are (not) + -ing
Examples: I am working, Jane is not eating, they are dancing Question: am/is/are + subject + -ing ? Examples: Are you leaving? What am I doing?

3 Form 2 Short answers: Yes, pronoun + am/is/are
Example: Yes, I am. Yes, he is. Yes, they are No, pronoun ‘m/’s/’re + not or isn’t/aren’t Example: No, I’m not. No, he’s not. No, he isn’t

4 Spelling Verbs that end in -e (come) ® -ing (coming)
Verbs that end in vowel + consonant (sit) ® the consonant doubles (sitting) Verbs that end in -ie (lie) ® -ying (lying, dying)

5 Use 1 1) Something is happening now/ at the moment of speaking.
Example: I’m tired. I’m going to bed now. Goodnight! 2) Something is happening in a period around now (a temporary situation) (usually with words: today, this week, this evening, these days, this month, this year). Example: My fiends are building their own house. They hope it will be finished before next summer.

6 Use 2 3) We talk about changes happening around now.
Example: The population of the world is rising very fast. 4) We talk about arrangements for the future. Example: Tom is going to the dentist on Tuesday morning. (from Tom’s diary) 5) The construction “be always doing” means: sb. does something too often, more often than normal (critisizing). Example: I’m always losing things.

7 Other use 6) When think means “to consider” (přemýšlet).
Example: I´m thinking of changing my job. 7) When see means “to have a meeting with”. Example: I’m seeing the manager tomorrow morning. 8) The construction “He is being” means: He is acting/behaving (chová se). Example: I can’t understand why he’s being so selfish. He isn’t usually like that.
