9 IELC Homestay Program The IELC Homestay Program is available for students who want to live with an American family. The family setting provides a great opportunity for students to learn about American traditions and customs. Homestay encourages students to practice informal English with native speakers on a daily basis in a natural setting. The students gain a rich experience in American culture. Host families provide each student with a private room, meals and transportation to and from school and school related activities.

10 IELC has an active group of community volunteers who help students adjust to American life. The group, Friendship Partners, is part of the Christian group, International Students Inc. Friendship Partners are American families or single persons who volunteer to become friends with an international student. Friendship Partners often treat students as part of their family, and provide much needed support and help in emotional and practical aspects of life in the United States. Many Friendship Partners become lifelong friends with their international friends. As one Friendship Partner said, "When international students arrive, everything is new. They need someone to prepare them for how things are done, how we think, and the easiest ways to adjust to our culture. They need someone who is truly going to be their friend."
