9 I-4SR 408 Ultimate Improvements Design Underway Since 2003 Utilizing the 2002 Approved PD&E Design Concept Division St. Gore St.

10 One of the commitments FDOT made to the FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) during the PD&E was to ensure I-4 improvements are responsive to changing conditions Resulting in the 2008 Re- evaluation and Systems Analysis of the I-4 Corridor conducted by an Independent FDOT Consultant In Section 4 of the I-4 Design Project, Consultant identified the closely spaced signals at the proposed SUL (Special Use Lane) interchange at South Street would result in significant delays in downtown Orlando, and traffic backups along the SUL ramps to and from I-4. 11 Value Engineering Study April 2009 FDOT, City of Orlando and Consultant Support Staff 29 Alternative Design Concepts were considered These alternatives were evaluated and the best and most effective ones were combined into a final alternative

12 Timeline Summary Aug 2002 PD&E Approved 2003 – 2008: DOT prepares I-4 Ultimate Improvement Plans Dec 2008: I-4/South St SUL Interchange Traffic Operations concerns identified Feb 2009: DOT proposes revised design solution to City Orlando April 14-16 2009: Value Engineering (VE) study held; 29 alternatives identified April – June 2009: VE recommendations analyzed June 2009: Most promising VE recommendations combined for further analyses June 2009 – May 2010: Refined preferred VE combination solution with City Staff May 2010: Solution determined; full analysis complete June 2010: Revised Design solution agreed upon by all November 2010 FHWA Approved Revised Design Concept (I-4 SAMR Update) November 2010 – Present: FDOT in process of updating I-4 Ultimate Improvements plans due to Revised Design Concept at I-4/South St SUL Interchange
