2 Same meaning, different name Altruism = selflessness Self-Efficacy = strength of confidence level Difference threshold = just noticeable difference (jnd) Dizygotic & Monozygotic Twin = Fraternal & Identical Twins Behaviorism = Stimulus-Response Psychology Yerkes-Dodson Law = Inverted-U Hypothesis Bystander effect = diffusion of responsibility Declarative/non-declarative (Procedural) memory = explicit/implicit memory Afferent=sensory neurons & efferent=motor neurons

3 The Framing Effect This is a type of cognitive bias. When you react to a certain choice based on how it is presented to you.

4 Various Less Common Terms Belief perseverance – desire to continue believing in something in the face of disproof. Token Economy – operant conditioning based behavior- modification.

5 Various Less Common Terms Self-Handicapping - people avoid effort in the hopes of keeping potential failure from hurting self-esteem. Intrinsic Drift – when an animal tends to revert to instinctive behaviors that interfere with trained behaviors.

6 Various Less Common Terms Just-World Hypothesis – assumption the world is fair and people get what they deserve and deserve what they get. Biofeedback - process of gaining greater awareness of many physiological functions primarily using instruments that provide information on the activity of those same systems, with a goal of being able to manipulate them at will.

7 Various Less Common Terms Habituation - decrease in response to a stimulus after repeated presentations. Overjustification effect –States if you suddenly start being rewarded for something you already liked doing, you may start to like it less. Imprinting - learning occurring at a particular age or a particular life stage that is rapid and apparently independent of the consequences of behavior (Konrad Lorenz studying greylag geese)

8 Various Less Common Terms State Dependent Memory – memories are most efficiently retrieved when in the same state of mind as their formation. Mood Congruent Memory – memories are retrieved that match with one’s mood. Human Factors – optimize human health & systems. I/O Psychology – study human behavior in the workplace. Vestibular Sense or Semicircular Canals

9 This or That Antisocial Behavior - behavior that lacks consideration for others and may cause damage to the society, whether intentionally or through negligence Prosocial behavior – any behavior that helps another, whether the underlying motive is self-serving or selfless.

10 This or That: Both expose the client to anxiety arousing stimuli for prolonged durations. Flooding – deals with actual image or stimulus. Implosive Therapy – imagining, without direct contact.

12 This or That Divergent Thinking “use of objects tests” Convergent Thinking “bring info in, to produce a correct answer (converge upon).

13 This or That Eros - life instincts, libido, preservation of life. Thanatos - death instincts, compel humans to engage in risky behaviors.
