1 LEMA VISION MISSION AND STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES (SLO) Competencies for the 21st Century

2 At LEMA OUR VALUES… We like students who think carefully about themselves, critically about the world, and are ambitious about their role in it. We like teachers dedicated to teaching students certain subjects for the demands of both the 21st Century workplaces in which our students will be working and the college environments in which they will be attending. We like families that have trust in our school and that are committed to encouraging teachers to become active partners in their children's education.

3 Our Vision: Our Mission: To be a group of students and teachers who are critical thinkers, aiming for both educational and personal excellence in a culture of care, support, and improvement, in order to teach and graduate as responsible, productive digital media literate leaders. To prepare students for an education in the media arts at the university and community college levels, who understand the role of the media arts in the world and how it affects their lives; ready to join 21st century jobs in leadership positions with determination, creativity, and craftsmanship as well as working together, planned-reasoning and practical skills needed to learn, identify, understand and solve problems and achieve goals.

4 1. LEMA GRADUATES WILL BE CRITICAL THINKERS WHO CAN... Show original thought through solving problems, coming up with ideas, writing work, and technical or artistic display. Come up with opinions based on facts and defend their point of view. Transfer learned skills to new situations. Fix their performance to gain needed results based on feedback and evaluation. Use their personal knowledge and experiences as much as they can to make information meaningful.

5 2. LEMA GRADUATES WILL BE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS WHO CAN... Listen, speak, and write well using Standard English. Talk to people, in a group, and while making oral presentations without being shy. Show work using different media, creating projects using technology, drawing, voice or other performances. Put their part of work when working with other people.

6 3. LEMA GRADUATES WILL BE RESPONSIBLE, SELF DIRECTED INDIVIDUALS WHO CAN... Set realistic educational, career, and personal goals, set and follow a post- secondary plan. Show proper study and work habits, time and organizational management. Show self-discipline, determination and self-motivation.

7 4. LEMA GRADUATES WILL BE PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO... Help the community for at least 20 hours. Show how they know things are happening around the world, and their point of view from other cultures. Keep academic and personal honesty. Show awareness of personal heritage and appreciation for the many different types of cultures and races in our community. Understand and participate in the school rules.

8 5. LEMA GRADUATES WILL BE MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY LITERATE WHO... Are able to create, analyze, evaluate, and use information, media and technology. Understand how media messages are made and why. Study how people see messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence what people believe and why they act a certain way. Understand and use the media creation tools wisely. Use digital technologies, communications tools, and social networks to get into, manage, evaluate and create information to successfully work in a knowledge economy.

9 In my Advanced English Placement Language class, we practice critical thinking when: we analyze and write essays about a prompt and when we have to say whether we disagree or not and why. make powerpoints CRITICAL THINKERS LEMA graduates will be CRITICAL THINKERS who show original thought through solving problems, coming up with ideas, writing work, and technical or artistic display. they will come up with opinions based on facts and defend their point of view, transfer learned skills to new situations. fix their performance to gain needed results based on feedback and evaluation and use their personal knowledge and experiences as much as they can to make information meaningful.

10 In Senior Seminar we practice effective communication when… we write about things that have to do with college. we make powerpoints like our Career one. present our powerpoints to the class. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS LEMA graduates will be EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS who can listen, speak, and write well using Standard English. 11 In Senior Seminar we demonstrate that we are self directed and responsible individuals when deciding what we are going to do in our future lives after high school. SELF DIRECTED INDIVIDUALS LEMA graduates will be RESPONSIBLE, SELF DIRECTED INDIVIDUALS who can set realistic educational, career, and personal goals, show proper study and work habits, time and organizational management. Show self-discipline, determination and self-motivation.

12 In our AP Government, we are proud to be productive community members when we discuss about current events and what’s happening economically, politically, ect. PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEMA graduates will be PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS who Help the community for at least 20 hours. Show how they know things are happening around the world, and their point of view. Show awareness of personal heritage and appreciation for the many different types of cultures and races in our community.

13 In all of our classes, we demonstrate literacy of media and mastery of technology when use iPads and computers to help us on projects, research, and other work we do in class. MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY LITERATE LEMA graduates will be MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY LITERATE who are able to create, analyze, evaluate, and use information, media and technology. Study how people see messages differently and their values and points of view and how media can influence what people believe and why they act a certain way. Use digital technologies, and communications tools to get into, manage, evaluate and create information to successfully work in our economy.
