9  5 Types of Lipoproteins  They are all proteins, not cholesterol  Chylomicrons  Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL)  Intermediate Density Lipoprotein (IDL)  Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL)  High Density Lipoprotein (HDL)

10  Less than 200 mg/dL  Desirable level  200 to 239 mg/dL  Borderline high  240 mg/dL and above  High blood cholesterol*  A person with this level has more than twice the risk of heart disease as someone whose cholesterol is <200 mg/dL.

17  Statins  The most commonly prescribed cholesterol medications.  Block cholesterol production in the liver, decreasing LDL levels while raising HDL levels slightly.  Examples:  Atorvastatin (brand name Lipitor),  Fluvastatin (Lescol),  Rosuvastatin (Crestor),  Simvastatin (Zocor).
