Agenda

Participants

Evaluation  Capabilities for forecasting dust have greatly improved in recent years (thanks to MSG, MODIS)  Excellent material and many interesting dust examples  Collegues from the Air Quality Department were especially pleased to learn new things about dust  Nice to test our (new) knowledge during the lessons  Repeat the event in French  Greater reference to conceptual models & forecasting issues  Internet problems (e.g. Africa, East Europe)!

EUMeTrain Event Weeks EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159 Twice a year the EUMeTrain project organises an event week on a meteorological topic. During such a week a series of lectures are presented dealing with research and practical applications. All the session are recorded and can be downloaded and played back for self study!

Organisation very similar to EUMETSAT Event Week!! Announcement (Website, Newsletter, etc.) Invitation Registration Test sessions with presenters and participants Centra Teleconferencing tool Structure of sessions (50 minutes lectures, 10 minutes questions, interaction with participants via chat box) Evaluation of Dust Events Week (Webropol) Certificate of attendance Database for training material produced!! -> Eumetcal digital repository intraLibrary EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010

Announcements Contact points of different programs/projects Website (Eumetcal, EUMeTrain, NHMS) Newsletters (Eumetcal, ?) Even FB! EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010 EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159

Registrations Participants (single or group) have to fill and send an electronic form Max number 60 participants, no selection process -> application process closed when potential seats not available anymore WHY MAX NUMBER? WHY 60? EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010 EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159

Technical issues: Pre-event tutorial about Centra For participants: testing of connections, eventual troubleshooting For teachers: testing of connection, more advanced use of the system (uploading ppt, interactions with students, etc.) COMMENTS: Several teachers are getting used; a kind of thresold has been overcome Training the teachers on e-learning methods? An example … EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010 EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159

Structure of sessions 5 sessions, each consisting of two different online presentations One longer presentation - 40 min – about state of recent operational products, case studies, research results One shorter usually connected with operational applications (challenges in using sat products, methods for using products in operations etc.) And not only satellites: Satellite information can offer excellent insights when merged with other remote observations! 16 EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010 EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159 Structure of the program

Event week: online training and material production Online interaction between experts in meteorology in different fields Production of learning material of high quality EUMeTrain Snow Event Week 2-4 February 2010 EUM/OPS/DOC/10/0159
