Not all tumors are cancerous! Benign: abnormal cells that grow in one area and do not spread to any other part of the body Usually not life-threatening Tumor: occur when there is a problem with the dividing of cells in the body Either benign or malignant Malignant: cancer cells that spread into the blood and lymphatic system and spread to all parts of the body

Can the cancerous cells spread… Yes! Metastasis: cancer cells travel to other parts of the body where they begin to grow and replace normal tissue Biopsy: Removal of tissue to test for cancerous cells.

Cancer Warning Signs: C: Change in bowel movement A: A sore that does not heal U: Unusual bleeding or discharge T: Thickening or a Lump in body tissue I: Indigestion or difficulty swallowing O: Obvious change in a wart or mole N: Nagging cough or hoarseness

Cancer Risk Reduction:

Cancer Treatments: Surgery: cancerous cells are surgically removed from the body Radiation: radiation energy penetrates the tumor, destroying the cancer cells by damaging the DNA in the nuclei Chemotherapy: combination of anti-cancer medications
