3 Overview of Virtual Job Fair Date: March 16, 2016 1:00-5:00 p.m. ET Will feature job openings in the following areas: o DC, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Puerto Rico o Employers are federal contractors who are particularly interested in hiring people with disabilities o Tickets must be assigned for a beneficiary to participate. 3

4 Overview of the Virtual Job Fair Beneficiaries participating in the Ticket to Work Program must contact their Employment Network or Department of Rehabilitation to find out how to register The registration link was only released to service providers – you should already have this. If not, send an email to vjf@choosework.netvjf@choosework.net You can email current Ticket Holders the link, but we ask that they don’t share with anyone else. 4

5 Overview of Virtual Job Fair You can register for a beneficiary on their behalf. A beneficiary must sign a consent form and it must be kept on file. Find the consent form at www.choosework.net/vjfconsentwww.choosework.net/vjfconsent Even if a beneficiary participated in the last VJF in November, they must register again and sign a new consent form. 5

Job seekers can search their job sites now 6

7 How to Help Beneficiaries Prepare for a Virtual Job Fair

8 Do You Homework Prior to the virtual job fair, beneficiaries should: Review the roster of the employer participating Determine what kinds of jobs are available Visit company websites and social media pages to do research about each company Do a Google search to read the latest news articles about each company 8

9 Have Paperwork Ready Have an up to date, error-free resume. Resume should be saved on the computer being used for the job fair or on a flash drive for quick uploading to the virtual job fair platform. If using a laptop, make sure the battery is fully charged or plugged in. Need reliable high-speed internet connection. 9

11 Manners Matter Beneficiaries should remember to address recruiters as "Ms." and "Mr." Be polite. Do not use emoticons or acronyms such as LOL or OMG. Use proper grammar and complete sentences. Watch for typos online communications. 11

12 Take Notes Take notes on the companies participating Which jobs do they list as being open? How does the beneficiary think he or she could assist the company? Beneficiaries should develop three key messages about themselves: how they can be a valuable part of the team, how their experience translates to the company’s goals, and what particular skills and abilities they bring to the table. 12

13 Examples of Prepared Chat Messages Hello, I am Joe Smith and I am pleased to have this opportunity to chat with you today. Hello, I am Sam Brown. I saw that you are hiring for a customer service gaming technician and I love to game! I would love to help others get started or solve their problems. Hello, I am Sarah Smith. I have a Bachelor’s in nursing and I have been a nurse for 25 years – I’m interested in the nurse advisor position. 13

14 Follow Up Send thank you notes to each employer talked to. Sending a thank you note in the mail will set an individual apart from others. Sending a thank you note will make an individual memorable and shows that if hired, they would be a conscientious employee. 14
