2.  Born in Westmoreland County, Virginia on February 22, 1732  Oldest son of Nine Siblings  Parents were Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington.

3.  Never attended any school or college.  Educated as a child by his father.  Self educated as he became an adult.  Favorite subject was math.  Studied:  Mathematics  Surveying  The classics  Rules of civility

4.  Father died when George Washington was 11.  Death ended plans for George to go to England to be educated like his other brothers.  Learned social graces from his mother  Good conversation  Correct table manners  Proper entertaining  Social skills helped be relieved with elder.  Helped consider him for advancement  Hard worker  Began a journal at 16  Good handwriting  Learned surveying  At 17 started own business as a surveyor  Physically active and Strong  Described by Thomas Jefferson as best horseman of his age.  Loved fox hunting from horseback.

6.  A member of the Anglican church  Made many references to God and the bible in his public statements and private letters

7.  Only went on one trip outside of the United States in his life.  He accompanied his brother on a trip to Barbados to help cure Lawrence  A brother who suffered from tuberculosis.  Thought that the warmer weather would help relieve his tuberculosis.

8.  Married Martha Dandridge Custis on January 6 th 1759 at the age of 27.  Never had children.  They raise two children of Martha’s from a previous marriage.  John Parke Cutis  Martha Parke Cutis

9.  Never formally joined a party.  Government offices.  Held offices under the Royal Government.  Had many accomplishments while in office

12.  George Washington cut down his fathers cherry tree.  George Washington stopped the boys from fighting in the School yard.  Lead his schoolmates in play battle  When to school in Fredericksburg, and was taught by a tutor named Hobby  Threw a silver dollar across the Potomac River.  Wore a powder wig  He had wooden teeth
