What Does HIV/AIDS Mean  H=Human  I= Immunodeficiency  V= Virus  A=Acquired  I.D.=Immunodeficiency (or immune deficiency)  S=Syndrome

What Is The Difference Between HIV And AIDS?  The term AIDS refers to an advanced stage of HIV infection, when the immune system has sustained substantial damage. Not everyone who has HIV infection develops AIDS.  When HIV progresses to AIDS, however, it has proved to be a universally fatal illness. Few people survive five years from the time they are diagnosed with AIDS, although this is increasing with improvements in treatment techniques.  Experts estimate that about half the people with HIV will develop AIDS within 10 years after becoming infected. This time varies greatly from person to person, however, and can depend on many factors, including a person's health status and health-related behaviors.  People are said to have AIDS when they have certain signs or symptoms specified in guidelines formulated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

How Can One Become Infected  Having vaginal or anal sex without a condom with someone who is infected.  Having contact with the blood of someone who has HIV. This could be having a blood transfusion from someone who is infected with HIV  From a mother who has HIV to her baby: HIV can pass to the baby during pregnancy, during the birth of the baby, or through breast- feeding. Only about one in three babies born to HIV-positive mothers get HIV.  Receiving an injection from an unsterilized needle that was previously used by someone with HIV.

Tips Not wearing a condom isn't the smartest way to go Ladies never let a guy talk you into unprotected sex yes he will say to you “it feels better with out a condom” but its not about what feels good its about being safe Studies have shown that Coitus interrupts (or “pulling out”) in which the penis is removed from the vagina, anus or mouth before ejaculation, is not safe sex, you can also become pregnant or infected because guys have a pre-ejaculation, which is a fluid that oozes from the urethra before the actual ejaculation

Sex Sex Education should be a class that everyone has to take it shouldn’t be an elective that is an option Parents should always talk to their kids about sex make sure they understand the outcomes of having sex which are – Becoming pregnant – Becoming infected with Chlamydia Gonorrhea Herpes Simplex HIV/AIDS HPV Syphilis

Things To Do Before Sex Get to know your partner first Go to take a test together Talk about sex and about your sexual partners before them Get tested together and show one another the results

Statistics

According to the 2000 census, blacks make up approximately 13% of the US population. However, in 2005, blacks accounted for 18,121 (49%) of the estimated 37,331 new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the United States in the 33 states with long-term, confidential name-based HIV reporting. Of all black men living with HIV/AIDS, the primary transmission category was sexual contact with other men, followed by injection drug use and high-risk heterosexual contact. Of all black women living with HIV/AIDS, the primary transmission category was high-risk heterosexual contact, followed by injection drug use. Of the estimated 141 infants prenatally infected with HIV, 91 (65%) were black (CDC, HIV/AIDS Reporting System, unpublished data, December 2006). Of the estimated 18,849 people under the age of 25 whose diagnosis of HIV/AIDS was made during 2001–2004 in the 33 states with HIV reporting, 11,554 (61%) were black

Argument The Reason I wanted to talk about HIV/AIDS is because I feel that not enough people take this serious. I feel that everyone should get tested at least twice a year or whenever they want to become sexual with someone new. High schools don’t talk to students enough about HIV/AIDS and how it is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GgKYL0Dbuo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rpaBwFYN- 0&feature=related
