3 What do we mean by partnership? "It is probably not love that makes the world go around, but rather those mutually supportive alliances through which partners recognise their dependence on each other for the achievement of shared and private goals." 4 Definitions An association of two or more groups of people with common aims Planned and structured service delivery involving more than one group of people What do you define as a partnership?

5 Dialogue – making it better There is no such thing as perfect communication Members of partnerships may have different agendas Reviewing communication effectiveness on a regular basis is essential

6 What makes a successful partnership? There are many characteristics of successful partnerships……………..Over to you…..

7 Why partnerships fail Different agendas Lack of understanding of the nature of the partnership Equality not being at the centre of the partnership Refusing to grow and develop AND????

8 CASE STUDIES In small groups please consider the case studies 1.What are the strengths and weaknesses of the partnership? 2.How can you assess the health of the partnership? 3.Knowing what you know now would you do anything differently in your own partnerships?

9 Sharing Best Practice Developing and maintaining partnerships – key factors: Communication is key Trust and a willingness to learn from each other is essential Partnerships have to be worked at
