Influence on health and wellness

What is health? Health is a condition of your physical, mental/emotional, and social well- being. Each part of your health is equally important. To be “healthy” you must balance all of these parts. What is wellness? It is the state of good health achieved by balancing physical, mental/emotional, and social health. If you do not maintain a balance, you will not be functioning at your best

Heredity and your health Heredity: the passing down of traits from a parent to a child What are some examples of heredity? vision problems, diseases, etc. Trait: a characteristic that a person has. Some affect the way you look- Some affect your behavior-

Environmental Influences Environment: All the things around you- some you can see, and some you cannot. Can you think of some examples? Air quality, organisms that could make you sick, people around you, etc. Ways to make your environment a healthier place to live: Dispose of trash properly to prevent pollution Walk, ride a bike, or use mass transit to reduce the number of cars on the road Recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum cans to save natural resources

How Your Relationships Influence Your Health What your parents or caretakers teach you about nutrition, hygiene, and exercise will affect the way you deal with your health Peers are an important part of y our social health- they influence so many things you do like classes you choose to take and activities you choose to do Friends can be a positive or negative influence on your health. Example? True friends would not ask you to do things that will harm your health or get you into trouble.

Other Factors That Influence Your Health Advertising- commercials, magazine ads, etc. Media- Some information will benefit you, but BE CAREFUL!
