RENAISSANCE project IST Objectives  Renaissance is a new software technology for a new genre of edutainment applications featuring high quality graphical interfaces, networked cooperative environments, scientifically validated contents and an innovative pedagogical approach  Key research tasks are knowledge-base management, intelligent evaluation agents, 3D virtual communities.  The prototype will be a typical renaissance court. Users will play roles, live in the court and experience the social conventions of the period.  The project has a duration of 18 months, from 1st January 2000 to 30th June 2001.

RENAISSANCE project IST Milestones 4software environment and methodology for a new genre of multi-user Internet game, based on the simulation of an historical environment 4intelligent agents checking in real-time user actions according to historical social and behavioural conventions 4historically validated assets and a knowledge-base on historical social rules will be created 4a prototype typical Renaissance court will be built 4web site, promotional material, web user group 4total budget 2000 kEURO, funding 1000 kEURO

RENAISSANCE project IST Problems encountered 4Knowledge base creation methodology: information in the knowledge base should be easily manipulated and assessed by content experts 4Communication among system components: evaluation engine - virtual community remote server - 3D local engine 4Bibliographic work: history cannot be so easily reduced to a sequence of algorithms!
