TESTBED FOR FUTURE INTERNET SERVICES TEFIS at the EU-Canada Future Internet Workshop, March 23 2011 Annika Sällström – Botnia Living Lab at Centre for Distance-spanning Technology, LTU, Sweden

2 EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011 TEFIS in brief Project title: Testbed for Future Internet Services Instrument: IP – FIRE Objective (1.6) Consortium: Thales (coordinator), ENG, INRIA, Fraunhofer, SQS, USP, IT innovation, Active Eon, LTU-CDT Duration: 30 months (June 2010->) Budget: 5,4M€ Project objectives:  Provide a framework that will allow interconnection of various facilities effectively.  Develop the TEFIS portal and user tools  Implement the core services of the platform  Define the testbed connectors API  Develop the experimental data management tools  Provide iterative releases  Prepare the open call

3 EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011 A single-access point to different testbed resources TEFIS goal is to provide a single access point to run experiments remotely on heterogeneous testbeds. Support service development lifecycle TEFIS project will develop a portal with the relevant features and tools to make the access to Testbeds and LivingLab features easier. Efficient Future Internet Service experiment and development TEFIS project will provide researchers and users a set of different features and tools that will improve their productiveness, making true the expectation of ‘more for less’. Personalized environments for tests Testbed users will be able to create their personalized entry point to the Future Internet, by defining their own environment for their experiments. TEFIS in a nut-shell EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011

4 Open Call Infoday Feb 9 2011 Making sure the FI services meet societal needs Heterogeneity of aspects to experiment Support an approach combining Living Labs experimentation, FIRE testbed facilities and simulation together Simulation can be used to carry out 'what if' experiments Living labs to involve users in the design Trials in large scale real-life conditions Future Internet service experimentation EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011

5 Open Call Infoday Feb 9 2011 Open platform for the management of the complete experiment orchestrated across heterogeneous facilities Support of the entire service development lifecycle (need finding; business model definition; software design and development; testing, quality and system engineering) Allow efficient combination of various facilities Networking resources Living lab resources Cloud resources TEFIS approach EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011

6 Open Call Infoday Feb 9 2011 TEFIS platform design 14-15 December 2010 EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011

7 Open Call Infoday Feb 9 2011 Portal - User interface Allow testbeds to be searched for, retrieval of reference data sets, configuration of tests to perform, gathering of diagnostic parameters or the specification of resource prerequisites. User access to a range of testing tools. Core services - Modules needed to run the TEFIS System Experiment manager, scheduler and resource manager to define and run experiments; Manage data and resources available for experiments (such as tools, facilities) Connectors - Wrap all testbeds in a common interface Defines the methods that the connector must implement in order to be able to be integrated with and exploited by TEFIS. Monitoting, data, resources, identity mapping management, execution, etc. TEFIS platform 14-15 December 2010 EU-Canada Future Internet workshop March 23 2011

8 Open Call Infoday Feb 9 2011 Planetlab: evaluation of network protocols and large-scale distributed systems. PACA Grid: computational resources for applications such as simulations, financial computations, image processing, etc. ETICS : testing quality, reliability and interoperability of distributed complex systems. SQS IMS: conformance validation and interoperability testing of applications over IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). Botnia Living Lab: products and services experimentally developed in real-life contexts with real users. KyaTera: network performance evaluation to assess the quality of the network, transmitting multimedia data to a specific Quality of Service level 23-27 November 2009 Facilities available in TEFIS
