History Earlier history of asthma Asthma was long considered a psychosomatic disease, and Hippocrates the Greek physician was the first to use the medical term as "Asthma" for a medical condition, around 450 BC. During the 1930s–50s, it was known as one of the 'holy seven' psychosomatic illnesses. At that time, psychoanalytic theories described the aeitology of "asthma" as psychological.

Symptoms Some symptoms of asthma are; Shortness of breath Nighttime coughing Chronic 'throat-clearing' type cough Complaints of a tight feeling in the chest Wheezing

Treatment Controlling and treatment The most important step in controlling asthma is establishing a partnership between doctor and patient (whether child or adult) to create a specific, plan for monitoring and managing symptoms. The most effective treatment for asthma is identifying triggers, such as pets or aspirin, and eliminating exposure to them. If trigger avoidance is insufficient, medical treatment is available.
