2 What is Asthma? Asthma is a respiratory condition marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing. It usually results from an allergic reaction or other forms of hypersensitivity.

3 What’s an Asthma attack? An asthma attack is a sudden worsening of asthma symptoms caused by the tightening of muscles around your airways (bronchospasm). During the asthma attack, the lining of the airways also becomes swollen or inflamed and thicker mucus more than normal is produce.asthma attackasthma symptoms Some Symptoms of an Asthma attack include: Severe wheezing when breathing both in and out Coughing that won't stop Very rapid breathing Chest pain or pressure Tightened neck and chest muscles, called retractions Difficulty talking Feelings of anxiety or panic Pale, sweaty face Blue lips or fingernails Or worsening symptoms despite use of your medications Call 911 if you have any of these symptoms.

4 What are some symptoms of Asthma? Some warning signs you have Asthma is coughing especially at night wheezing shortness of breath chest tightness, pain, and pressure *Remember not everyone with Asthma has the same symptoms

5 Types of Asthma Do you know the different types of asthma? Advances in our understanding of asthma have helped experts define specific types of asthma. Allergies and Asthma Allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma. About 90% of kids with childhood asthma have allergies, compared with about 50% of adults with asthmatype of asthmaasthmaallergies Exercise-Induced Asthma people have exercise-induced asthma, which means that their asthma symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath) are triggered by exercise or physical activity.exercise-induced asthma Cough-Variant Asthma C ough-variant asthma is a type of asthma in which the main symptom is a dry, non-productive cough. 6 What should you do if you think you have Asthma? You should go to your medical practitioner. Or if you are having what you believe to be an Asthma attack go immediately to the closest emergency room.They will examine your medical history, and exam your symptoms. And at that point will decide if you have Asthma or not.

7 Is there a cure for asthma? Asthma is an controllable illness. For most people with Asthma control is so effective that it amounts to a virtual cure. But asthma is not curable.

8 What triggers Asthma? There are many triggers that may result in the release of inflammatory substances. Common Asthma triggers include: Tobacco smoke Pollution Allergens such as pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or food Chemicals Certain medications (aspirin, beta-blockers)medicationsaspirin Exercise Weather changes (for example, cold weather) Viral or bacterial infections Strong emotions (laughing or crying)

9 Statistics on Asthma 20 million people in the U.S have Asthma Asthma affects more women the men, and more African american than any other race Children have a higher chance of having Asthma because they have smaller airways. 9 million out of 20 million people are children.
