Digital Story Telling Board By: Emily Back

2. Sounds like a lot of fun! -It is! I like to get daily exercise and this way it’s fun. -What other kinds of exercise do you do? 3. Sometimes I’ll walk my dog around the neighborhood or through the park. -That sounds like a great time! I hope you don’t go by yourself. -Of course not! I usually go with my mom or my sister. 1. Hey Elmo, how are you doing today? -I’m doing great today! How are you? -I’m great. I just got back from playing soccer with some friends.

4. Well, there are fun things you can do to exercise by yourself -Like what? -You could ride your bike or even practice your sports! 5. Ooh, those sound fun! What else could I do? -You could do some other fun things with your friends! You guys can play games like tag. Try to do something active everyday! -Wow, there are a lot of fun things I can do for exercise! 6. Well, it’s not all about getting exercise. You have to make sure you eat healthy, too. -How do I do that? -Make sure you eat breakfast everyday! It’s the most important meal of the day.

7. I always eat breakfast! -Good! You’re starting off the day right. Throughout your day, it’s okay to have snacks. You can have an apple, some celery, or even cookies are okay to have occasionally! -I can do that! 8. Awesome! Make sure you eat a variety of different foods, too. Don’t eat too much of one thing! -How can I do that? -Try to follow the food pyramid! It’s very helpful when trying to eat healthy. 9. What’s on it? -There’s 6 groups on the pyramid; grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, oils and meat and beans. -What’s in each group?

10. Grains are things like bread, rice, and cereal. You should eat about 6oz everyday. You should make about half of those 6oz whole grain. Vegetables are things like carrots, corn, peas, lettuce and potatoes. You should eat about 2 ½ cups each day. Make sure to vary your veggies. Next are fruits. Fruits are things like apples, bananas, oranges, and strawberries. You should eat about 1 ½ cups each day. In the milk category, we have things like cheese yogurt, and obviously milk. You should have about 2-3 cups each day. Calcium is very important! Oils are a sometimes category. This is more of the sweet foods. You can have them, just not all the time! Finally, we have meat and beans. This category includes meat, eggs, peanut butter, fish, and beans. You should eat about 5oz everyday. Protein is also important!

11. What else can I do to stay healthy? -Like I said before, daily exercise is important! It doesn’t have to be something too big, just work up a little sweat. -Maybe I’ll join a sport team at school. 12. That’s a great idea! Do your best to stay fit and healthy! Don’t forget to have fun! -Thanks, Elmo!
