2 Grains Grains are seeds from plants. Some examples of grains are rice and wheat. To be healthy you need 6 servings a day. Tip: Make at least half of your grain choices whole grains. Some choices from this group would be: Cooked rice: ½ cup Cereal: ½ cup dry cereal is good but stay away from sugary cereal! Pasta: ½ cup Oatmeal: ½ cup sweeten with honey instead of sugar Toast or bread: 1 piece of white bread is good but whole wheat is fabulous!

3 Vegetables Vegetables are great for your body. They are roots and leaves and stems. Vegetables fill you up and help you poop! To be healthy, you must eat 3 servings a day. Tip: Try using different colors on your plate. The more colors you have, the more vitamins you are getting. Some foods in this group are: broccoli, cucumbers, lettuce, and carrots. Raw veggies: ½ cup Leafy veggies: ½ cup

4 Fruits Fruits are needed too! Fruits are the part of a plant in which the seeds form. We need fruits to keep us well. Tip: Make most of your choices fruit and not juices. Juice has too much sugar in it. Some foods in this group are: apples, watermelon, plums, and grapes. A serving for this group: Fruit: 1 piece Juice: ¾ cup Dried fruit: ¼ cup

5 Dairy We need the milk group for our bones. It makes them strong.
Tip: Try fat free or low fat choices. Some choices for this group are: milk, yogurt, and cheese A serving for this group: Milk: 1 cup Yogurt: 1 cup Cheese: 2 ounces Pudding: ½ cup

6 Meats, Beans, and Eggs We eat foods from the meat group for the vitamins that keep our muscles and blood healthy. Tip: Choose lean meats such as turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, peas, nuts, or seeds. Some choices are: beef, turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, peas, nuts, or seeds. A serving for this group: Meat: 2-3 ounces Cooked dry beans: ½ cup Peanut butter: 2 tablespoons Eggs: 1 egg for 1 ounce of meat

7 Fats and sugars We do need some good fats to get our vitamin E. But we need to keep that amount small. We need to get our sugars from our fruits. Sugar doesn’t help us.
