KEY TERMS Backstage View Default Printer Desktop Application Dialog Box Driver Keyboard Shortcut Microsoft Office Mini Toolbar Quick Access Toolbar RibbonScreenTip Shortcut Menu

KEY DEFINITIONS Backstage View: Displays information about the currently opened document and provides access to application settings, printing options, and saving and opening documents. Default Printer: The printer that is automatically selected when printing from a software program or application. Desktop Application: Software programs designed to run on desktop or laptop computers. Popular desktop applications include the Microsoft Office applications. Dialog Box: A small box that provides additional options or information related to a specific action or feature.

KEY DEFINITIONS (CONTINUED) Driver: Software used by a computer operating system to communicate with and operate computer hardware, such as printers, scanners, and hard drives. Keyboard Shortcut: A key combination that, when pressed, performs a specific command in a software application or operating system. Microsoft Office: A collection of desktop productivity applications. Examples of software applications included in Microsoft Office are Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Mini Toolbar: A collection of controls that appears when a specific object, such as an image, is selected. Controls on the mini toolbar can be used to manipulate the selection.

KEY DEFINITIONS (CONTINUED) Quick Access Toolbar: A toolbar located on the title bar that contains a default set of frequently used commands. Additional commands can be added to the toolbar for fast access. Ribbon: A collection of tabs and icons that are used to control program features within Microsoft Office applications. ScreenTip: A helpful hint on how to use a feature or function in a Microsoft Office application. ScreenTips are displayed in a pop-up window when the mouse pointer rests on a feature's icon or button. Shortcut Menu: A list of commands that displays when a user right-clicks an icon, button, or object in Windows or a Microsoft Office application.
