In A2 Media Studies, We were told to produce a five minutes short film. The Short film should contain a beginning, middle and ending. Our Genre is Drama/Social Allegory

As you can see on the screenshots we have used a variety of location from a local school indoor to a rich house. At the very beginning of our film we decided to film inside the school as he was a cleaner to portray him being poor and not liking the job which must teenager would agree if the were a cleaner in a school. On the second scene we decided to choose to film outside in a local corner shop to show the surrounding of the city of where he is from. This links to drama convention as you trying to describe the character using setting to portray he is from a lower class due to antique building around him. On the third scene is inside his flat. It was taken from a low angle shots, so you could clearly see the Mise-En-Scene well. The indoor is really dull to describe the character that he could not afford to buy a modern house instead stuck living in a flat. Lastly in the dream it is shown he is walking through his new house. It is a another Mise –En – Scene shots to show the house and him walking with shopping bag which we try link with the house. The setting/location has proven to meet drama convention because as a drama film, we are supposed to go through about the characters mood and life.

Costume- In the beginning the character is worn Hoodie with loose jogging trouser. This symbolised that he is poor and not respected. Those clothing could explain why he was rejected for a better job because in real life having a better job people should be dressing smart for an job interview. In most of the Drama film, clothing and body language is used to describe their characters mood and behaviour.

We have used a strong language voice over in our film to show how aggressive our character is trying to live in his life where he is never succeeded. You could clearly see that the voice over is working class because it is informal and you would not expected the hear that from a middle class person. This has linked to real convention drama because most drama film is going through and learning about someone’s life style. Background music- I’ve used a variety of Free Royalty music from YouTube the play in a particular scene. At the beginning we decided to use rock music. Rock Music is one of the most popular music played in a drama convention which we have proven that in our film. At the ending we chosen relaxing piano instrumental to show the sadness of what happened after the dream which he was desperate for.

As I was the editor, we decided to use different editing technique for each scene. In the beginning, there is slow pace cut to show the mood of our character of how he is facing toward his life. During the flat scene I decided to increase the pace cut a little bit to show the audience that there is going to be something surprising during that location that they have to keep their eyes on. When the money scene pop, a different rock music is played to show how excited he is with those amount of the money he is looking at which then I developed into more fast pace cut to make the audience feel that something is going wrong which he should not have taken advantages of the money. In the end the cuts get back to normal to show he is back from a lower status and had never succeeded and was all about the dream. I decided to not use too much special effect in my film compared to last year because as a drama film is meant to be all natural and smooth unlike action or horror movie a special effect is required to show the convention.
