Industrial Areas Heavy industry is located away from the CBD on the Jersey side of the Hudson River. Te area has its own deepwater harbour and docking facilities. Light industry is located in the industrial estates outside the CBD.

Open or Recreational Space New York contains many parks for recreational activities. Eg.Central Park, Gateway National Recreational Area and Staten Island.

Residential Areas Old Residential inner-city areas like Harlem have decayed multi-storey apartment blocks. Inner-city redeveloped areas have been converted into spacious upper-class apartments for the young and wealthy in mid-town Manhattan. Sub-urban dormitory towns where people commute from are Staten Island and The Bronx.
