What is a “blog”?  Abbreviated version of the word “web log”  Frequently updated personal website featuring diary-like commentary  Wide range of topics  Some example of blogs found while searching the internet: Personal Journals, Political, Travel, Fashion, Technology, Project, and Legal

The Blog Content  Consists of “posts” written by the author(s)  Listed chronologically (newest on top)  Important that the content is frequently updated Main Content Area

Comments  Visitors and authors of other blogs can leave comments or impressions about a blog article by posting comments.  Allows for an interactive website  Can be moderated to delete unwanted, offensive, or spam comments Comment Posting Area

Other Elements of a Blog  Blogroll  List of links to other websites the author finds interesting  Archive of previous posts  Web Feed  Format for serving users frequently updated content  Can subscribe to a blog and “feedreaders” constantly check for updates  Common Formats include RSS, Atom, or RDF files

Conclusion  Blogs are frequently updated personal website featuring diary-like commentary in a variety of topics.  Blogs consist of content, comments, a blog roll, and web feeds.  Most important advice in starting a new blog is to post regularly and stick to a specific genre.  Any questions?
