3 What is RSS? "Real Simple Syndication“ or "Rich Site Summary”
Sometimes referred to XML feeds. An updated lists of headlines and articles Feed reader or Aggregator .

Create the XML feed Store the feed in an XML file, or create it dynamically Consumers Use content from the feed News Stories, Blog Entries, etc…

6 What about Atom? A format quite similar to RSS
It was created by people who felt that RSS could be improved upon More complex Atom properties =RSS properties

7 RSS parts and types of clients
RSS is divided into two parts: Feeds Aggregators(A software program that you can download and then use to read your RSS feeds) Tested clients: Local Readers (browser and stand alone readers) Web based readers

11 Advantages of RSS You can read feeds from multiple websites in one location. No SPAM! No Pop-Ups! Most blogs now have feeds, and more journals and news sites are adding them.

12 Disadvantages Some users prefer email updates over an RSS feed.
Graphics and photos do not appear in all RSS feeds. Publishers cannot determine how many users are subscribed to their feed and the frequency of their visits. Higher traffic and demands on the server. Since it is a new technology, many sites still do not support RSS.

13 Bake it From Scratch Declare the RSS version you’re using (2.0 is the latest) with the <rss> tag Use the <channel> tag to begin your feed Use the <title>, <description>, and <link> tags to describe your feed as a whole (there are other optional tags that apply to your feed as a whole, like <copyright>, <image>, and <webMaster>) Start each item with the <item> tag

14 Bake it From Scratch Within each item, add a <title>, <description>, and <link> End each item with </item> End your feed with </channel> End your file with </rss> Save your files as an XML file (eg. sciencenews.xml)
