In the (rare) normal operation mode main actions for editing the settings of the muon system and for checking the configuration and the noise level of the apparatus can be made in a panel that is opened by right click on the MUON_DAQ in the MUON hierarchy FEB Settings and Check

FEB Settings and Recipe Management 1. Creating recipes; 2. Show detailed comments in the recipes; 3. Recalling history of applied recipes; 4. Deleting recipes; 5. Starting and reading dialog- counters on the whole apparatus; 6. Opening directly the panel of chamber to adjust thresholds of noisy channels; 7. Editing the “anomalous-channel” file to include modified settings in the general recipes; The panel looks like in the picture below and allows to:

Settings: the thresholds In order to create recipes with individual thresholds channel by channel: 1. Select “File” in the threshold method; 2. The configuration menus for the different stations are disabled; 3. The thresholds written in the files in the folder “G:/muon/pvss/MuonComponent/lbMuDeMon/Data/Lukas/” are used to create the recipe;

Settings: the time configuration The values of the FEE time configuration (FEB and SB delays and dll calibrations) to be written in a recipe can be retrieved from an existing one. It is possible to choose an existing recipe as a source of the timing settings to be used for creating a new one. The chosen recipe may be: 1. “PHYSICS” which contains the current timing settings; 2. “TIMING” which always will contain the latest results of the fine time alignment procedure; 3. Another recipe, known for having interesting time settings;

Settings: creating the recipe Than a recipe will be created by pushing the button “Create Recipe”. The name should begin with “PHYSICS_” if the recipe is to be used for PHYSICS runs; Follow the procedure evolution by means of the progress bar. It should last few minutes.

Settings: selecting a recipe In order to choose the recipe to be used in the CONFIGURE procedure, one has to select it, with the “Select Recipe” button. All the recipes present in the Cache are visible in the list. Once selected, after the progress bar has reached the end (less than 1 minute needed), the recipe will be used for the following configuration. The selection DOESN’T change the current hardware settings.

The history of all recipes selected for the various parts of the Muon System is recorded on a log file: G:\muon\pvss\MuonComponents\DetectorReadoutExtra\update_log.txt Settings: selection log With a click it is possible to see the last ten lines of the “recipe selection” log file in the message.

Check the current FEB settings By clicking here a comparison between the selected recipe and the current front-end Board configuration will start. The result of such a comparison will be stored in G:\muon\pvss\MuonComponents\lbMuDeMon\Data\HardwareChecks

Anomalous channels In the tab “Anomalous channel list” it is possible to edit the list of single channels of FEBs that have to be set to values different from the “standard ones”. For example noisy channels that have to have higher thresholds or have to be masked. After the button “Save on File” is clicked, these settings will be used for the creation of all the recipes Editing rules: 1. Lines can be commented with '#' 2. Columns are separated by SPACES or TAB 3. FEB channels are from 0 to 15; 4. “-1” means ALL channels of a FEB;

Check of the physical channel rate From the tab “Physical channel rate monitor” it is possible: 1.To start the counters of all the physical channels of the apparatus with a gate of 1 s. All the counting and data downloading procedure lasts about 10 minutes. Detailed log files with the countings of all channels can be found for further analysis in the folder: “G:\muon\pvss\MuonComponents\lbMuDeM on\Data\ThreshScan\NoiseData\” 2. To show a list of all channels having a count rate above a chosen threshold in Hz;

By a simple right-click on a selected chamber name in the anomalous channel list one can open the corresponding panel. In this way, anomalous settings can be tested before being written in the list. Curing and test anomalous channels
