Diwali Dance Lesson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCRKTSoz75Q

Learning Objective To perform dances using a range of movement patterns (NC 2014, P.E.) To learn about the Diwali celebration.

Success Criteria Perform 5 Diwali-inspired dance moves correctly. Arrange a one-minute dance performance including the new dance moves.

Plan: Warm-up WARM-UP: Play music as children enter the room, this will have been played in previous lessons. Re-cap what we have been learning about in previous lessons. Choose questions off the wall from lesson 1 enquiry regarding dance.

Plan: Present Play clip of children doing a Diwali dance. Play again, this time with no music. Have children pick out dance moves that they would like to put together into a routine. Make a class list of the dance moves on the whiteboard. Demonstration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMVuVaacT8c

Plan: Practice Practice the elicited moves together with music playing in the background.

Plan: Production Class use dance moves and any other moves they feel appropriate to the theme to arrange a simple dance routine for Diwali. One minute piece of music played 5 times for them to practice over. Set groupwork expectations. Teacher circulates and offers feedback to children. Allow time to discuss routine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXeD0TUBGD4

Plan: Plenary Students perform their dances. Record the dances on an iPad if possible. Other groups offer constructive and positive feedback. How could we make this dance better?

Differentiation Students with physical disabilities can participate with dance moves that they are able to do e.g. hand moves. Great opportunity for EAL children to get involved and participate. Differentiate by success criteria, number of dance moves that children are expected to use.
