History facts Every year on the 14 July the French celebrate the French Revolution. Peasants had to pay tax to the noble the King and the church. The nobility were exempt from paying most taxes. This caused division between the peasants and nobility resulting in the French Revolution Over 18,000 people were beheaded at the Guillotine When the royal family tried to escape France they were recognised because the king’s face was on all the coins so they did not get very far
