Jason and the Golden Fleece Retold By: Tyler, Zane, Carson, & Brenden

Jason went to his uncle's kingdom to fulfill the agreement that his father and uncle made. The agreement was when Jason was old enough he could rule the kingdom in which his father originally ruled.

The King accepted the request, but only if Jason could obtain the Golden Fleece from the Kingdom of Colchis. Jason then went off to gather supplies and for his journey to Colchis. He hired a professional boat maker to make a boat that could sit fifty rowers and crew members.

They then set off for Colchis. Along the way they came upon a small island on which they rested. They found a man there named Phineus who was being held captive by huge birds. They rescued him and in return he told them of a danger not far ahead of them.

Phineus explained to them that there were two islands that knocked together if any threat passed through. This would hurt all of the crew, but Phineus had a solution. He said that they could send a dove ahead of them to close the island, and when the islands re-opened they could pass safely.

Phineus’ solution worked! The dove passed through and the ship followed! Then after a short period of time they arrived at Colchis, but with conflict ahead of them.

The king of Colchis agreed to help Jason, but there was one downfall. Jason had to harness the king’s fire –breathing bulls. Then he had to plow the king’s fields and plant dragon’s teeth that later would grow into furious warriors that Jason would have to kill. Jason accepted the challenge.

Before Jason went on to his 2 nd mission, the king’s daughter named Medea gave Jason a magical bracelet and a special oil that would protect him during his challenge. He completed the it with no problem because he used his special oil to tame the bulls. He harnessed the bulls and planted the seeds. He then used the bracelet to turn the warriors on each other.

Z Z Z… Jason then got back to his original task where he had to retrieve the Golden Fleece. As with his earlier mission, Medea gave him a special sleeping potion. As soon as the dragon fell asleep, Jason stole the fleece and returned to his kingdom with Medea and the Argonauts.

Jason arrived to King Pelias’ kingdom, but Pelias refused to fulfill his promise. Medea knew this, so she tricked the king’s daughters into killing their father by saying she had herbs to heal him. The herbs did not work and the King died.

The people of the kingdom, including Jason, would not accept Medea as their queen because of her actions. Jason then married the princess of Corinth. Medea sent this new queen a robe that combusted in flames. This killed the queen and burned down the palace.

Jason went to his ship to grieve and rest, but a wind blew the bow off the ship and onto Jason. This killed him, but Jason was not forgotten. Zeus made a constellation named Argo in honor of Jason.
