About Mrs. Shores Born and raised in Jacksonville, NC Parents and older brother live in Jacksonville, North Carolina B.A. in Elementary Education from UNC-Chapel Hill Sixth year of teaching Second year at Lacy! Curriculum Based on the 4 th Grade NC Standard Course of Study 4 th Academic Focus: –Reading: Comprehension Strategies and Vocabulary instruction through whole group lessons, guided reading, read alouds, and literature circles –Spelling: Patterns and high frequency words –Writing: Personal and Imaginative Narratives; Content Writing (expository/nonfiction) –Math: Math Expressions Units with enrichment lessons –Science: Earth Materials, Magnetism and Electricity, Animal Studies, Food Chemistry through Science Kits –Social Studies: NC Geography and History

Formative Assessments Assess Reading and Math Multiple choice/Scantron Tests Math – at the end of a unit Reading – after practicing multiple objectives Used to drive instruction Reading/Math Groups Flexible groups for Reading & Math designed to best fit the needs of your child. The groups are different from last year and ever-changing depending on the topics being covered. ALL groups teach the same curriculum, just at a different pace.
