Alligators!!!!! One of the Biggest Reptiles on the Planet By: Trace F.

Lifespan Introduction The scientific name for an alligator is Alligator Mississppiesas. The biggest reptile in North America. The scientific name for a Chinese alligator is Alligator Saneness. Alligators are carnivores. Alligators can live up to 70 years old. Alligators are legally protected. Alligators can go 25 years in captivity!!!

Alligators have a scaly back like snakes, but with spikes. Alligators can weigh up to 1,000 pounds! Alligator’s back muscles are stronger than their front. Green eyes or dull grey eyes Alligators have 80 teeth! Alligators have a big head. Physical Features!

Alligator Head! Alligators have hidden ears on their head. Alligators carry babies in their mouth. Alligators have long broad snouts. Alligators have a curved head. Alligators eyes are usually green.

Habitat Alligators live in freshwater, rivers, swamps, marshes, canals, and bayous. Alligators live in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama! The rare Chinese alligator lives on the Yangtze River. They live on every continent except Antarctica.

Climate Alligators need humidity to survive. Alligators love when the Spring comes because they like hot and warm weather. Alligators don’t like the winter a lot because all of the hot weather goes away. Alligators love to cool down in the fresh swampy waters.

Eating Prey of what eats them Predator to what they eat Humans try to kill alligators! When small they can get eaten by raccoons, foxes, hawks, and turtles may try to eat them! Alligators sometimes get swallowed by Burmese Pythons but it takes a long time for the python to swallow the alligator. Alligators eat insects, fish, Soft- shell turtles, water snakes, Wading birds, and otters.

How Alligators Act Alligators when they find a mate they bellow loudly to attract the mate. Alligators would usually fight over a female during mating season. Alligators defend their territory by fighting off other enemies. When alligators hiss it means they feel threatened. Baby alligators make a loud sound if they are in trouble.

Babies  Baby alligators are called hatchlings.  Alligators can have babies at one time.  Baby alligators need 86 degrees in incubation.  Baby alligators are 10 inches long when they are born.

Physiological Adaptations  Alligators have strong muscles to help them run and catch their prey.  Alligators have flaps in their mouth to keep the water out.  Alligators can hold their breath for an hour so they can just sit their and wait for their prey to come.  Alligators have very sensitive ears so the ears vibrate in the water so they can see their prey.

Behavioral Adaptations During madding season they do something called a death role which is when they twist each others legs to rip apart their prey. Alligators carries babies in their mouth to protect them. They make bellowing noise to attract mate. Baby alligators make a weird sound that says they’re in trouble. Alligators fight over females with one another.

Physical Adaptations Alligators have green skin that help them blend in with the swampy water. Alligators have eyes, ears and a nose which peak out of the water to help them catch prey. Alligators have very strong tails to push through swampy water. They have a membrane to protect their eyes.

True Fun Facts About Alligators Alligators can go two years without eating!!! An airplane collides with an alligator on average once a year. An alligator can not move its tongue. It puts its head back to swallow. Alligators can hold their breath for almost an hour. Alligators can run more than 30 miles per hour for short distances
