6. Did you know alligators can swim up to 6000 miles? They swim slowly to catch their prey. They rarely swim in salt water.

7. Alligators eat birds, turtles, snakes, and fish. Alligators can go many months without eating. They may stay perfectly still to catch their prey.

8. Alligators are cold blooded. Did you know cold blooded animals eat less? People hunt alligators.

9. When a baby alligator hatches, it’s up to 10 inches long. The alligator’s nest is 6 feet [1.8 meters] wide. Baby alligators eat fish, frogs and birds. A group of eggs is called a clutch. Alligators can grow up to 15 feet long. Babies are black with yellow stripes or splotches
