Mrs. Hamill Cluster 6-1 Reading and Language Arts

Reading 9 week rotation –Semester grade will be averaged Bring something to read everyday Students will practice strategies that successful readers use to build understanding in vocabulary, fluency, and author’s purpose and craft. Reading strategy lessons using fiction and non-fiction texts Examine reading both as “ reader” and as a “ writer”

Grades Percentages 1.Application of Skills and Strategies40% Application of comprehension skills and meta- cognitive (thinking) strategies. (Inference, predicting, determining importance, etc) 2.Use of Text Features and Structures40% Understanding and use of elements of literature, various text formats (genres), and print and visual graphics. (Main ideas, supporting details, cause and effect, conflict, etc.) 3.Academic Habits20% Responsibility with homework, independent reading tasks, participation in class.

CLUSTER 6-1’S ‘ED’-VENTURE CONTACT INFO SCHEDULE: –BLOCK 17:54-8:46READING –BLOCKS 2 & 3 8:50-10:26CLUSTER –BLOCKS 4 & 510:30-12:11 EXPLORATORY –LUNCH12:15-12:46 –HOMEROOM12:50-1:05 –BLOCKS 7 & 81:05-2:43CLUSTER HOMEWORK –on average, at least one hour each night during the week on homework or outside reading. –“no name” papers can be claimed and turned in for full credit toward the learning portion of the assignment –will receive reduced credit toward the work habits portion of the assignment. ASSIGNMENTS & TEACHER EXPECTATIONS –All students are expected to complete every assignment. * –Students are also expected to be prepared with their books and materials daily.
