Overview of April 2006 MHSOAC Meeting Presented By: Darrell Steinberg, Chair April 27, 2006

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Learning Objectives- Thursday Afternoon Commissioners will increase knowledge base about California’s traditional mental health financing Commissioners will learn about financing challenges facing counties as they attempt to build recovery oriented systems with MHSA Commissioners will learn how County Mental Health Directors are addressing financing challenges, specifically in 3 Strategic Directions of MHSOAC (reducing disparities; increasing partnerships; & making mental health relevant to the public)

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Learning Objectives- Thursday Afternoon Commissioners will be offered recommendations from the CMHPC to address CA mental health financing challenges. Commissioners will tour a model Wellness Recovery Center and learn about best practice Wellness Recovery Center models.

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Learning Objectives- Friday Morning Commissioners will learn about client and family member perspectives on potential role of MHSOAC in addressing mh financing challenges and building recovery oriented systems. Commissioners will learn and provide comment on recent MHSA Implementation Issues Commissioners will have opportunity to learn and provide comment on other available service funds and their role in creating priorities for these funds

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Learning Objectives- Friday Morning Commissioners will learn about MHSA Regulations development and its impact on MHSOAC role Commissioners will learn and provide feedback to DMH about Community Service and Support Plans: Year 2 Annual Updates Commissioners to get updates from active MHSOAC Committees: CSS, Prevention, Cultural and Linguistic Competence

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Learning Objectives- Friday Morning Commissioners to learn about initiation of all other MHSOAC Committees Commissioners to meet/learn about recently contracted, long-term MHSOAC Committee Consultants Commissioners to hear from the public about April Meeting issues as well as other issues of MHSA implementation

MHSOAC, April 27th, April OAC Meeting Action Items-Friday Afternoon Commission to deliberate and take action on its appropriate role in relation to the financing challenges that impact MHSA success Commission to deliberate and identify a process for identifying “Other Available Service Fund Priorities” Commission to vote on BCP, Commission to vote on proposed MHSOAC Executive Committee
