1 State Of Idaho Juvenile Justice Commission District 1 2014 Strategic Plan Strategic Areas, Goals, and Objectives October 22, 2014 Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

2 Early System Supports and Approaches Outreach and Education District One appointee(s) shall research effective Restorative Justice and behavioral approaches that will divert juveniles from the juvenile justice system Identify, propose and provide or recommend training to implement new and underutilized prevention practices for youth in our communities Each District will gather information regarding successful and unsuccessful reintegration efforts, including treatment successes and those that incorporate positive youth outcomes, to send to key stakeholders (from statewide reintegration plan) District One Council will recommended to school districts/boards in each county to adopt and change the zero- tolerance policy and offer an alternative Ensure an effective and a coordinated collaboration of community based stakeholders through the current District-wide meeting process; this includes potentially expanding the stakeholders invited Identify, propose and provide training of community stakeholders regarding youth challenges, behaviors and mental health needs to include trauma Reentry/Reintegration

3 Strategic Goal Areas Outreach and Education Early Systems Support and Approaches (there is also a Statewide Reintegration Committee Goal for all Districts)

4 Strategic Area: Outreach and Education Goal: In District One there is a paradigm shift as to how the community stakeholders view youth using current knowledge of youths’ challenges, behaviors and mental health needs and by using effective preventative practices Objective A: Identify, propose and provide training of community stakeholders regarding youth challenges, behaviors and mental health needs to include trauma Objective B: Identify, propose and provide or recommend training to implement new and underutilized prevention practices for youth in our communities

5 Strategic Area: Early System Supports and Approaches Goal: District One has a non-judicial response, resource, and support for early intervention for behavioral issues Objective A: District One appointee(s) shall research effective Restorative Justice and behavioral approaches that will divert juveniles from the juvenile justice system Goal 2: District One stakeholders will be meaningfully communicating and collaborating through a District-wide forum on a regular basis. Objective A: Ensure an effective and a coordinated collaboration of community based stakeholders through the current District-wide meeting process; this includes potentially expanding the stakeholders invited Recommendation: District One Council will recommended to school districts/boards in each county to adopt and change the zero-tolerance policy and offer an alternative

6 Statewide Reintegration Goal (from the Statewide Reintegration Committee) Goal: Each District has a comprehensive understanding of statewide reintegration practices Objective A: Each District will gather information regarding successful and unsuccessful reintegration efforts, including treatment successes and those that incorporate positive youth outcomes, to send to key stakeholders
