2016 Greater Philadelphia High School Essay Contest

Guidelines Sponsored by: Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Read, write, think! 3-5 full pages, 12-point font, double spaced Bibliographic references are required, and proper attribution must be given.

Everyone must participate! It will be a classwork grade. o Must be printed by the end of class on Tuesday, January 26 th Contest Participant? o your essay to Mrs. Rachubinski, o No later than Tuesday, January 26 th by 3pm o Subject Line: Essay Contest o Content: Your full name as you want it printed on a check and your home address to mail prize money

Prizes 1 st place: $1,000 2 nd place: $750 3 rd place: $500 (2) $200 honorable mentions

Topic #1 Pick a university and total up the four-year cost of tuition, books, and room and board. Then, detail the ways you could finance the cost, and how much the true total cost will be after financing.

Topic #2 What will the economic impact of large-scale events (such as the Papal visit or the Democratic National Convention) be on the city of Philadelphia?

Topic #3 If you were to start a business or nonprofit, what would it be and how would you use an accountant to help you?
