1995 TV SERIES Critically acclaimed and a popular success Jennifer Ehle "Best Actress" Role of Mr. Darcy elevated Colin Firth to stardom "A fresh, lively story about real people" Elizabeth's clothes had earthy tones and were fitted to allow easy and natural movements in line with the character's activity and liveliness Pale or creamy white colors for the clothes of the other Bennet girls Richer colors for Bingley's sisters and Lady Catherine de Bourgh Broadcast Between 10 and 11 million people watched the original six-episode broadcast on BBC One Probably as good as it [can get for a literary classic] "a cultural phenomenon, inspiring hundreds of newspaper articles and making the novel a commuter favorite"

BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY Modern version, set in London, more relatable to today, story line and message carry more weight. Considerable amount of controversy surrounded the casting of the American Zellweger as what some saw as a British heroine. However, her performance is widely considered to be of a high standard. Similar Characters (mother is pushy in an attempt to marry daughter, father is understanding and supportive of his children, love interest is also named Darcy Similar Story line (Bridget has a choice between Darcy and Daniel Cleaver, who is similar to Wickham, she then finds out Darcy is actually the better of the two and chooses him. She smokes, she drinks

PRIDE & PREJUDICE 2005 FILM Greater deviation from the text Changing the dynamics within the Bennet family Elizabeth's gradual alienation from Jane as the film progresses; this is in contrast to the book, where Elizabeth confides more of her feelings to Jane after difficult events. In the film, Darcy first proposes outdoors in the rain near a beautiful lake; in the book, this scene takes place inside a parsonage. In the film, his second proposal occurs on the misty moors as dawn breaks; in the book, he and Elizabeth are walking down a country lane in broad daylight. Earned four nominations at the 78th Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nod for Knightley Heavy time compression of several major sequences, including Elizabeth’s visit to Rosings Park and Hunsford Parsonage, Elizabeth’s visit to Pemberley, and Lydia’s elopement and its subsequent crisis. The elimination of several supporting characters, including Louisa Hurst, Mr. Hurst, Maria Lucas, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, the Gardiners' children, and various military officers and townspeople.
