2. A rich man named Mr. Bingley has moved to a town near where the Bennet family lives. Mr. Bingley The Bennet family

3. Mrs. Bennet asks her husband, Mr. Bennet, to invite Mr. Bingley over. She wants one of her daughters to marry him.

4. Mr. Bennet pretends that he is not going to invite Mr. Bingley over. He meets with Mr. Bingley secretly.

5. When Mr. Bennet tells his wife and daughters that he met with Mr. Bingley they are very excited.

6. Mrs. Bennet and the girls question Mr. Bennet a lot.

7. The Bennets invite Mr. Bingley over for dinner but he cannot come because he has to go to London.

8. Mr. Bingley returns with his sisters, his brother-in-law, and his friend named Mr. Darcy. Mr. Bingley’s sisters Mr. Darcy

9. Mr. Bingley and his guests go to a ball. The Bennet girls also go with their mother.

10. The oldest daughter, Jane, dances with Mr. Bingley. He thinks she is very beautiful.

11. Mr. Bingley tells Mr. Darcy that he should dance with Jane’s sister, Elizabeth Bennet. Mr. Darcy does not think she is pretty or rich enough. Elizabeth Bennet

12. Elizabeth overhears Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. She does not like Mr. Darcy.

13. The Bennet girls go home and Jane tells Elizabeth how surprised she was that Mr. Bingley danced with her.

14. The Bennets meet up with their friends, the Lucas family.

15. Everyone agrees that Mr. Bingley liked Jane the best.

16. When they talk about Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth says that she will never dance with him. Everyone dislikes Mr. Darcy.

17. Elizabeth thinks that Jane is in love with Mr. Bingley but is hiding her feelings.

18. Mr. Darcy begins to like Elizabeth. When it is suggested that they dance together Elizabeth refuses.

19. Jane is invited to Mr. Bingley’s house. She becomes sick and has to stay there for a few days.

20. Elizabeth walks to visit Jane and gets all muddy. Mr. Bingley’s sisters make fun of her and Jane. Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy defend them.

21. Mr. Darcy lists what he thinks a woman should be like and Elizabeth thinks that he is too demanding. They argue a lot.

22. The next day Mrs. Bennet and her other daughters visit Mr. Bingley’s house. Mrs. Bennet makes a fool of herself.

23. While Miss Bingley plays the piano, Elizabeth refuses to dance with Mr. Darcy again. This makes him like her even more.

24. Miss Bingley has feelings for Mr. Darcy and notices that he likes Elizabeth. This makes her very jealous.

25. Miss Bingley makes fun of Elizabeth and her family and tries to get Mr. Darcy to join her. He does not.

26. Miss Bingley does not like that Elizabeth always has Mr. Darcy’s attention. She does everything she can to be the center of attention.

27. Soon Elizabeth and Jane leave to return home.

28. Mr. Darcy is relieved they leave because he likes Elizabeth more than he wanted to.

29. Mr. Darcy does not think Elizabeth would be good to marry. She is poor and that would bring his reputation down.

30. The day after the girls return home, Mr. Collins, the man who will inherit the Bennet’s property when Mr. Bennet dies, comes to visit.

31. Mr. Collins is searching for a wife and he has his eyes on Elizabeth. Elizabeth does not like him very much.

32. The Bennet girls, Mr. Collins, and a man named Mr. Wickham go to dinner at the girls’ aunt’s house.

33. Mr. Wickham knows Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy’s father was supposed to leave money for Mr. Wickham, but Mr. Darcy found a way to keep all the money.

34. Elizabeth likes and trusts Mr. Wickham, and believes his story.

35. Elizabeth does not stop thinking about what Mr. Wickham told her. She decides that Mr. Darcy should be hated.

36. There is a ball but Mr. Wickham isn’t there because he stays away from Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth is sad he isn’t there.

37. Elizabeth dances with Mr. Darcy. When she brings up Mr. Wickham, Mr. Darcy tries to avoid the subject.

38. Miss Bingley tells Elizabeth not to trust Wickham. Elizabeth ignores her.

39. The next day, Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth. She says no.

40. Mrs. Bennet is very mad at Elizabeth for saying no. She tells her husband to order Elizabeth to marry Mr. Collins. He refuses.

41. After Elizabeth says no, Mr. Collins proposes to her friends Charlotte Lucas, and she accepts.

42. Meanwhile, Jane receives a letter from Miss Bingley saying that Mr. Bingley is planning to marry Mr. Darcy’s sister, Georgiana. Georgiana

43. Jane is very upset.

44. The Bennets are visited by Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, the girls’ aunt and uncle.

45. Mrs. Gardiner sees how upset Jane is and invites her to go to London. Jane accepts.

46. Elizabeth goes to visit Charlotte and Mr. Collins after their wedding.

47. While visiting, Elizabeth sees Mr. Darcy and he visits a few times with Colonel Fitzwilliam.

48. Elizabeth finds out that Mr. Darcy is the reason that Mr. Bingley left Jane. She is very mad.

49. Mr. Darcy tells Elizabeth that he loves her suddenly and proposes to her.

50. Elizabeth rejects him and tells him the bad things that Mr. Wickham told her about him. She thinks he is too proud and selfish to marry.

51. Mr. Darcy is very sad.

52. The next day, Mr. Darcy gives Jane a letter.

53. The letter explains that he thought Jane wasn’t in love with Mr. Bingley and he wanted to protect his friend. He also says that Mr. Wickham lied. Mr. Wickham broke Mr. Darcy’s sister’s heart.

54. Elizabeth decides that she shouldn’t have trusted Mr. Wickham and her feelings for Mr. Darcy begin to change.

55. In July Elizabeth goes with Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner on a trip near Mr. Darcy’s home.

56. They go on a tour of Mr. Darcy’s home, thinking that he isn’t there. They are wrong and Mr. Darcy shows up and joins them.

57. Mr. Darcy is very polite and asks Elizabeth if she would like to meet his sister, Georgiana. She says yes.

58. Mr. Darcy and Georgiana visit Elizabeth the next day and invite her and the Gardiners over.

59. Both of Mr. Bingley’s sisters are also there. Miss Bingley makes fun of Elizabeth to Mr. Darcy. He says that Elizabeth is the prettiest woman he ever met.

60. Elizabeth gets a letter from Jane saying that their youngest sister, Lydia, ran away with Mr. Wickham to get married.

61. Both Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy blame themselves for not telling others the truth about Mr. Wickham and how he is a liar.

62. The Gardiners and Elizabeth go back home. Mr. Bennet and Mr. Gardiner go to London to look for Lydia.

63. Mr. Gardiner finds Lydia and Mr. Wickham. Mr. Wickham says he will marry Lydia if they give him money.

64. They agree to give him money. If Lydia and Mr. Wickham don’t get married it would ruin the Bennet family’s reputation.

65. Elizabeth realizes that she has fallen in love with Mr. Darcy and would accept if he proposed to her again.

66. Elizabeth finds out that it was Mr. Darcy who paid Mr. Wickham to marry Lydia. He did this because he loves Elizabeth.

67. Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy come back to town and visit the Bennet’s house.

68. Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy visit often. Mr. Bingley proposes to Jane and she is very happy.

69. Mr. Darcy’s aunt tells Elizabeth that Mr. Darcy plans to marry her. His aunt does not want them married.

70. Elizabeth stands up for herself to Mr. Darcy’s mean aunt.

71. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley come to visit again. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth go for a walk.

72. Mr. Darcy tells Elizabeth that he still loves her. Elizabeth tells him that her feelings changed and she loves him too.

73. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth get engaged. They are very happy.

74. Jane and Mr. Bingley get married. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy get married. They live close and visit each other often.
