Shop Safety Running engines produce carbon monoxide. this is a colorless and odorless gas that is very deadly. Always make sure that an exhaust hose is hooked up to the engine and the exhaust fan is turned on before running any engine indoors.

Safety Which one would be the result of carbon monoxide poisoning: – Fluttering heart – Headache – Nausea

Shop Safety Combustible liquids should be stored in metal containers or approved plastic container which can be kept tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children

Unsafe practice in the automotive field Adding water to an overheated cooling system Pouring gasoline in the carburetor or intake while cranking the engine Holding hand over carburetor or intake to choke the engine

Shop Safety Never pour or spray gasoline in the carburetor or intake when you are cranking an engine because the engine may backfire and throw gas on you and burn you also the container you are pouring out of may catch on fire and explode. The proper way to prime an engine is: – Pour or spray a small amount of gasoline in the carburetor or intake – Move the container of gas away from the car. – Stand back from the carburetor or intake. – Start the engine.

Shop Safety Gasoline stored in an open container inside a building is dangerous because if a spark or open flame should be in the some general area, an explosion and fire might result. Gasoline fumes travel down to the lowest area and spread out. hot water heaters on the basement will ignite the fumes.

What is the safety hazard?

Shop safety Rings on fingers are dangerous in the shop. – They can glove a finger – They conduct electricity and cause burns

Shop Safety Make sure the tool rest on the bench or pedestal grinder is firmly and properly attached and is adjusted correctly (close to the stone of the grinder). Always make sure that your work is resting firmly on the tool rest. Following these ruled will prevent pieces of metal from flying out at you or will prevent you causing the stone to explode. If you are grinding on a small piece of metal, use vise grips to hold it firmly so you don’t grind off the ends of your fingers.

Shop Safety Don’t leave tools and parts laying on the floor where others might trip over them. You also need to clean up after yourself It is a safety and fire hazard.

Bring your head with you.

Shop Safety Students cannot work in the shop unless the shop teacher is present it is a state law.
