 Unfortunate event causing injury resulting from carelessness, unawareness, ignorance, or a combination of these causes. ◦ Most are caused by unsafe acts.

 Time it takes a person to respond to an accident  A person’s reaction time is slow compared to a machine.

 3 things are needed in order to have a fire 1.Oxygen 2.Heat (Ignition) 3.Fuel

 The best way to extinguish grease fires is to cover the fire to remove the oxygen. ◦ The fire will continue to burn due to the amount of “fuel” that is available.

 Occupational Safety and Health Administration  OSHA enforces safety laws and codes to help protect the safety of workers in various of occupations.

 Gas: RED  Kerosene: BLUE  Diesel: YELLOW  Green: Combustible

 RED =DANGER  ORANGE = WARNING  YELLOW = CAUTION  BLUE = INFORMATION  GREEN = SAFETY  WHITE = TRAFFIC MARKINGS

 MSDS: Material Safety Data Sheet ◦ Use the MSDS to find what to do if a harmful chemical has spilled or contaminated an area  Back problems is the leading single cause of lost work time. ◦ The best way to pick up heavy objects from the floor is to always keep your back straight and lift the load with your legs.

 Wear safety glasses when needed.  When working with heated objects, always wear gloves.  No running or horseplay.  Learn to do a job the right way.  Report all injuries to the instructor.  Observe all warning signs or tags.

 Be aware of people around you at all times.  Know where fire escapes, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment is located.  You may only leave the assigned area if given permission by the teacher.  Never throw anything.
