FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA [ Empowering e Science across the Mediterranean ] EUMEDGRID - Applications Giuseppe Andronico EGEE’07 Budapest 03/10/2007

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Applications In this project the applications were chose during the project using survey and questionnaires. The EGEE applications used to validate the infrastructure are the most diffused in the region (ATLAS, CMS)

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, New applications  Applications in the project where attracted in 2 phases: 1.WP2 survey of the region 2.Application questionnaire and 3 selections  The questionnaire is continuously on line and its use promoted along all the project events  The first selection was about both EGEE communities already present in the region and application just integrated on grid  Most of the application choose in the 2 nd and 3 rd selection were integrated during EGSAP1, the First EUMedGrid School for Application Porting  The project, by mean of EGSAP1, has created a gridification team in the region that is being used to iteratively support the other applications selected  EGEE communities have been promoted in the region inside project events to attract new potential users of the infrastructure

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Application Categorization  ATLAS and CMS  At the moment the several communities are not very big and are using the eumed VO  The applications domains are Physics Chemistry Multimedia Engineering Biomed Mathematics Financing Agriculture

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Cross Project Communities Identification  At the moment the only cross project communities allowed in this project are CMS ATLAS Earth Science ArchaeoGrid

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Application Selection Criteria  Quantitative criteria EUMEDGRID Partner are preferred The dimension of the community proposing the application. Already integrated on other grids are preferred. Communities with a better grid experience are preferred. How many countries are interested in the application development. Regional application domain is preferred.  Qualitative scoring The scientific area. The strategic importance of the application inside the project. The scientific and/or social impact of the application. Grid added value of the application.

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Gridification guides  No gridification guide is developed yet  The experience acquired could be capitalized in this sense in the next future

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, VO Resource Allocation Policies  All EUMEDGRID sites support the eumed VO  Other EGEE VO can be supported at various sites depending on the involvement of those sites in the international VO collaborations.

FP6−2004−Infrastructures−6-SSA EGEE’07, Budapest, Other Success Stories and Issues  EGSAP1, the First EUMedGrid School for Application Porting  CODESA won the best paper award at IST-Africa, and receive a lot of collaboration offers  ArchaeoGrid community is growing and growing in the region
